To cure bacterial vaginosis, there are several options that offer sufferers hope. Antibiotic drugs are the standard way to cure bacterial vaginosis. It is advised that women with the bacterial infection take one of three medications.
The first drug to cure bacterial vaginosis is taken orally by the user. Metronidazole is consumed twice a day, everyday, for seven days. The usual dose prescribed by doctors is 500 mg. In addition to the oral form of the drug metronidazole is a gel form. This is applied inside the vagina with an applicator once a day, for five continuous days, to cure bacterial vaginosis for the sufferer. In studies where the metronidazole gel was used for the recommended five days by infected women, it worked to cure bacterial vaginosis in participants within one month on average after the treatment.
The third most advised drug to cure bacterial vaginosis is a clindamycin cream. The cream is similar to the metronidazole gel in that it is applied inside the vagina. The clindamycin cream application should be applied for seven continuous days right before going to bed for the night. This is done so that the vaginal cream does not leak out. With the metronidazole gel, the user does not have to worry about leakage as much and can apply the gel during the day if necessary.
Oral metronidazole, metronidazole gel, and clindamycin cream medications are the three most doctor prescribed antibiotic drugs to cure bacterial vaginosis. Two additional ways to cure bacterial vaginosis are by taking one of two alternative forms of clindamycin. The first one that will cure bacterial vaginosis is clindamycin taken orally two times each day for an entire week. Another treatment using the clindamycin antibiotic drug is to insert it in ovule form. The user places one ovule in the vagina right before going to bed for the night. This is done for three consecutive days.
